Discovering the West: Tsingy, Coastline and RN7 Route

About the Tour

An unforgettable journey to discover the Great West of Madagascar: navigation on the legendary Tsiribihina river with a traditional pirogue, spectacular visit of the Tsingy de Bemaraha park (UNESCO World Heritage), iconic sunset on the Avenue des Baobabs in Morondava, trekking in the Isalo park, meeting with lemurs and discovery of the Sakalava and Bara cultures. 21 days of pure Malagasy magic.

Travel Itinerary

Day 1

Departure Country - Madagascar. Arrival at Tana airport, transfer and accommodation at hotel (Chalet de Rose or Sakamanga).

Day 2

Tana - Miandrivazo. Departure by 4x4 along the RN7, stop in Ambatolampy for the traditional aluminum foundry, arrival in Miandrivazo.

Day 3

Miandrivazo - Tsiribihina River. Embarkation for the adventure on the great Tsiribihina river, lunch on board, arrival in Sahambagno and camping in tents.

Day 4

River Navigation. Breakfast on board, waterfall and swimming, visit to the village of Begidro and meeting with the Sakalava tribe.

Day 5

River - Belo - Tsingy (Bekopaka). Final navigation on the Tsiribihina, ferry on the Manambolo, arrival in Bekopaka.

Day 6

Visit to Tsingy de Bemaraha Park. Excursion with a guide to the Tsingy (UNESCO): via ferratas, suspension bridges, and visit to the Small Tsingy along the Manambolo river.

Day 7

Bekopaka - Morondava. Return to Morondava with a spectacular stop for the sunset on the Avenue des Baobabs.

Day 8

Morondava - Manja. Departure southwards through the Kabatomena river and the thorny forest.

Days 9-12

Ambatomilo. Relaxing days with possibilities of excursions and diving in the crystal clear sea.

Day 13

Ambatomilo - Ifaty. Sandy track to Ifaty passing by Salary with a stop by the sea.

Day 14

Ifaty - Isalo (Ranohira). Crossing the Mahafaly desert and visit to the sapphire village of Ilakaka, arrival at Isalo park.

Day 15

Isalo National Park. Trekking in the natural wonder of Isalo: Bara tombs, Natural Pool, Waterfall and Blue and Black Pools. English speaking guides.

Day 16

Isalo - Ambalavao. Discovery of the ANJA ring-tailed lemur reserve, local lunch and arrival in Ambalavao.

Days 17-18

Ambositra - Antananarivo. Visit to silk and Antaimoro paper artisans, zebu horn workshops in Antsirabe.

Day 19

Tana - Andasibe. Visit to Pereiras reserve (chameleons), arrival in Andasibe and Vakona reserve.

Day 20

Andasibe. Visit to the INDRI INDRI National Park (giant lemurs), night walk with guide.

Day 21

Tana - Airport. Breakfast, return to Tana and airport transfer.

Accommodation & Hotels

Each hotel has private toilets and hot water. All selected hotels are from the medium category (equivalent to 2-3 stars with standard comfort). Accommodation is based on a room or bungalow for 2 or 3 people.

  • I speak Italian and French; English-speaking driver/guide included in the trip.
